I used it to verify that the antenna in the Attic worked as expected 80% signal level or better. The occasional signal drop out must be external.
Antenna Man TV Signal Meter Review
My OTA setup was having a problem pulling in local TV stations so I decided needed to replace my old RCA settp box with a new one that had a better TV receiver.
I live in an apartment building in Canada so I don't have the ability to use a large Yagi antenna on the roof. I purchased a ClearStream 2MAX antenna that I have sitting on the balcony that is facing south and is around 60' above ground. With my old RCA set top box, I felt I wasn't get the most out of my new antenna so I decided to upgrade my RCA box to the Antenna Man TV Signal Meter.
As far as the local channels are concerned, in my area there are around 6 local channels and only 3 of them are worth watching. Two of them are UHF whose stations are broadcasting from behind my building and the VHF is south of me so I have direct line of sight on that one. With my old set top box the stations were coming in at 52% and the signal strength would drop occasionally. The UHF stations were prone to pixelation whereas the line-of-sight VHF station was usually rock solid.
The Antenna Man Antenna Signal meter allowed me to move the antenna around until I got a much stronger signal. Now all 3 stations are around 70% with some fluctuations. The signal strength appears to be stronger probably because it has a better tuner than my old RCA box.
Weaknesses
----------
The "manual" is just a folded up sheet of paper with photos whose primary purpose is to set up the box. It does not explain the full features of the box nor does it tell us the default password for using the PVR is "0000".
1) The video signal from the box is darker than normal and I had to boost the TV's brightness up all the way.
2) I don't see any way to perform a channel scan to add only new channels while leaving the existing channels alone.
3) The accuracy of the signal level fluctuates. There is one UHF channel that as I cycle through the channels, shows up at 72%. If I go to another channel and then return back to that UHF channel, it now shows up as 54%. If I move through more channels and end up back at that UHF channel, it is back up to 72%. All of this happens within 30 seconds and is repeatable.
The remote control is the greatest flaw in this system.
1) I find the remote control too small and too thin for me to grip comfortably in my hand.
2) The buttons are too small and so is the writing on it. I can never just pick up the remote and start using it by feel alone. I have to keep turning on the light and searching for the correct button. The layout of the buttons leave a lot to be desired because they are too close together. My old remote controls from cable TV was far better designed and had a better button layout with different sized buttons so I could easily find the buttons in the dark.
3) The PVR features are not well documented and the user has to figure these out for themselves. It becomes a frustrating learning experience.
4) To record a broadcast the user will need to supply their own USB storage device, like a thumb drive that is formatted as FAT32. This limits the size of the storage device to a mere 4GB!
5) The buttons on the remote to play a recorded video are too small and it is too easy to press the wrong button. If I accidentally try to fast forward through a commercal and accidentally press the wrong button, it will exit from the video being played, I have to restart the video playing from the beginning and manually fast forward to where I left off. It would be nice if it could remember where I left off playing the video.
6) It would be nice if there was a PVR button for a 15-30 second commercial skip because using the fast forward button requires the user to quickly find the play button when the commercial is over.
7) I found the audio of the recorded video to be muddy, not as crisp and clear as when it was recorded. It appears the audio is too heavily compressed in order to fit more recorded shows onto that 4GB storage limit imposed by FAT32.
Conclusion
----------
The Antenna Man TV Signal Meter box is primarily designed to help people adjust their TV antenna. And in that regard it fits the bill. Its tuner is more sensitive than my old RCA box.
On the downside, the Antenna Man box will have a hard time replacing a set top PVR for the weaknesses I just mentioned. If you can't afford $40 for a PVR then look around for a better remote control that can clone the Antenna Man's remote control.
Great product. I was able to triple my station list!
First and most important Tyler the antenna man (Tyler Kleinle) has been around for years and has helped many many people over the years with various antennas and antenna signal issues. He is a very knowledgeable person when it comes to accessing free over-the-air TV channels.
He definitely provides great guidance on over the air TV antennas.
So a very big Thank You, Tyler Kleinle the Antenna Man for helping as many people as he has with antennas and TV rf signal distribution issues.
As for this signal meter, the tuner with signal strength meter actually works very well for this application. I actually use it with a small computer monitor that has a HDMI input. No sound, but not needed to do signal strength.
I have used it at my home to verify RF signal strength at different points of my TV Coax in home cable network. It does help simplify/verifies if you have a good signal.
You can pretty much immediately see the differences as you make changes.
It's a nice tool to have around, not expensive and plan to use it to help relatives, friends and neighbors. Not a bad way to verify TV strength signals at all. So give it some consideration if you're thinking of speeding up your antenna job or just verifying strength of your TV over the air signals. And, of course purchasing from him does help support the Antenna mans past and future years of good work.
Best purchase ever, get all the channels I am looking for. Better than any other tuner out there. Highly recommend.

Why I Built This Meter
Hey, Tyler here — also known as the Antenna Man. For years, I’ve helped millions of people cut the cord and get free TV with just an antenna. But there’s always been one frustrating part: finding the best signal.
Too many people give up because their antenna isn’t pointed in the right direction — or they waste hours scanning, rescanning, and still miss out on channels they should be getting.
So I decided to fix that. I built a signal meter that actually works — something I wish everyone had when setting up their antenna. My dream? Help even more people cut the cord for good… and actually enjoy free TV the way it’s meant to be.
My mission stays the same: to help people cut the cord — and I truly believe this product will help even more of you do just that.

Let’s Clear Things Up
What does the signal meter actually do?
It shows you the real-time signal strength from your antenna, so you can adjust it and instantly see which direction gives you the best reception — no more rescanning or guessing.
Will it help me get more channels?
Yes — when your antenna is pointed in the optimal direction, you can often pick up channels you weren’t getting before. That’s what this tool is designed to help with.
Is it hard to use?
Not at all. Just plug it in between your TV and antenna. That’s it. Plus, every order comes with instructions and a full video tutorial where I walk you through how to set it up and use it properly.
Do I need to buy anything else for it to work?
Nope. If you already have a TV and an antenna, you’re good to go. Just connect the signal meter in between, and you’re all set.
Will this work with all antennas?
It works with most antennas that connect via coaxial cable — which is the standard type used for over-the-air TV.
What if I have questions or need help?
I’ve got you covered. The setup video answers most common questions, but if you’re stuck, just reach out via email — I’m here to help.
